Dipping Your Toe Into Social Media

 Used correctly social media marketing can give you a platform for brand awareness, exposure, networking, and a huge boost in traffic & sales. The problem is, most people don't know how to use the social media properties correctly... Bring your personal life into the mix. This is something I discovered online back in 1998 when our kitchenware business grew rapidly. People want to connect with real people. Don't position yourself as someone who has ALL the answers and lives a PERFECT life and has everything color coordinated and organized and perfectly clean in your closets but be someone people can relate to. Share your life, share how you live and inspire others. I learn just as much from those who have a relationship with me through Social Media as they do from me. It's a beautifully beneficial relationship. Ironically it's one of my biggest USP's that can't be copied but it can be caught. Be yourself, be real and you'll have clients who make your life such a joy! social media is about micro-topical conversations, so consider how you can introduce internal offers or pages of your website into these conversations. Or say you are an insurance agent. After spending some time on a national insurer's Facebook social media marketing fan page you find you're joining others. Do you have 16,600 clients? Get your name and your company's name in people's faces. Make your name start to rattle around in their social media agency heads like some commercial jingle you just can't shake. This relies on the creation of meaningful, quality content that people want to click on, read and share. Don't blog on Facebook. Blog from your website and market that content through your Facebook page. The idea of social media is to use it as a tool to drive traffic, so you must make your website your customers' ultimate destination. Think of your website as the Hawaii of your Internet marketing plan. All efforts should end on your shore. 12. MEASURE your impact: Because you set goals and objectives you will know your key metrics. If you are a small business who couldn't hire an expert and didn't really know what to expect or measure, it's okay! Many companies are in the same boat. However, regardless measurement is key! Track your Facebook fans, twitter followers. Track what content they responded positively to. In the span of two minutes he tells the story of a product that he believes in, passionately, describes how good this product is for the planet, and makes a plea to all who are listening to go buy the product immediately. I don't know what this campaign cost to produce, but I'm guessing it's a fraction of what is typically spent on product promotion, and the message is more valid than anything you'll see on television.
